HP Tuners RTD Flasher (Via A Windows PC): Most Applications Will Use This Method

*** NOTE: Wi-Fi is required to read and write to your vehicle. Ensure you have a strong Wi-Fi connection and your Windows laptop (required) battery is charged or that your laptop is currently charging.***

After completing installation of the RTD Flasher you will want to open up the software.

  1. Once you have the RTD Flasher software open, connect your RTD/RTD+ device into your vehicle’s OBDll port.
  2. With the USB cable provided, plug the USB C (smaller side) into the face of the RTD/RTD+ and the other end into the USB slot on your computer.
  3. Once the device is connected to the computer, turn your vehicle to the ON position (for push-button vehicles, this will be one press of the engine start button) DO NOT START THE VEHICLE. For push-button vehicles, do not press the brake pedal.
  4. You will want to select the read vehicle option at the top of the RTD Flasher software. (The icon will be the book with the green arrow pointing up)
  5. After selecting the read vehicle option, you are going to want to click on gather information.
  6. After selecting the gather vehicle option you will have 1 of 2 different menus with hardware types:
  7. If you have a vehicle with 1 module that controls the engine and transmission you will want to make sure it says read entire
  8. If you have a vehicle with 2 modules. One reads the engine and the other reads the transmission. You will want to make sure that you select read entire on both.
  9. When the read process is complete and/or done with one controller it may ask you to cycle the key. Please follow the on-screen prompts to complete changing controllers or end the reading process.
  10. Once completed it will prompt you to save the file with a name. At this time save it somewhere easy to find such as your PC’s desktop and label it FirstName LastName stockfile.
  11. After saving your stock file email the file to: sales@5startuning.com

Once the tunes are received via email you will want to download these files onto your computer somewhere easy to find or create a folder to save your tunes into.

  1. Once tunes have been received and downloaded, open the RTD Flasher, plug your device into the OBDll port and connect the RTD/RTD+ to your computer
  2. With the RTD flasher open and everything connected you are going to want to go to the top of the RTD flasher and select the help menu and resync interface. A new window will appear, and this will add the credits used for licensing your vehicle to the module. (Required credits are included in the purchase of your device from 5 Star Tuning)
  3. Once completed hit close and go to the left-hand side of the screen and select the folder that is open or go to file and Open File. This is where you are going to select the tune that you want to try out first.
  4. Once the file is open turn the key into the On position but DO NOT START THE VEHICLE and select the write icon, this is the book with the red arrow pointing down (this can be found right beside of the read icon previously selected)
  5. After selecting the write icon a window will come up that allows you to license your vehicle, select show license option and then click specific on the controllers and click commit to license option.
  6. The flashing window will appear, Make sure to select all dropdowns with write calibration and then select the option that says write.
  7. Once completed it will ask you to cycle the key and say flash completed.

You have successfully flashed a 5 Star custom tune into your vehicle.RTD

Do I Need A Shop To Install? The installation process of the tuner is simple and can be performed by anyone. No tools are required for the installation.

What Is the Process With PCM-F0-MG1-U?

HP Tuners is pleased to now offer an upgrade service for the MG1 PCM found in 2021-2022 Ford F-150 trucks powered by the 3.5L and 2.7L EcoBoost V6 or 5.0L V8 gas engine. This service enables full functionality of VCM Suite software custom tuning using an RTD+ or newer generation interface. This one-time upgrade service upgrades your original Ford MG1 PCM requiring you to remove the original PCM from your truck and send it to our headquarters for servicing (see shipping information below). After upgrading, we’ll ship it back to you and you’ll have full access to calibrate, log, and scan via the OBDII port using the latest version of VCM Suite.

No relearns/reprogramming required (see important notes):

  • No IMMO relearn*
  • No crank relearn*

*As long as the PCM is installed back into the same vehicle it came from.

Ford MG1 PCM Service:

  • PCM (Ford MG1) License for tuning: (4) Universal Credits (Included with the purchase of 5 Star Tuning RTD+ or 5 Star Tuning email tunes)

Important Notes:

  • This service is required to tune 2021-2022 F-150 trucks with the 3.5L EcoBoost/2.7L EcoBoost/5.0L gas engine and MG1CS036 PCM using VCM Editor.
  • This is a send-in upgrade service that requires the original PCM to be removed from the vehicle and sent to HP Tuners for servicing.
  • Expect 1-3 business days for servicing (not including shipping times).
  • PCMs with broken tabs or connectors WILL NOT be accepted for upgrades. No exceptions. Please be careful when removing your PCM.
  • This service only upgrades your original PCM for tuning, it does not reprogram your PCM for a different VIN. If you intend to send HP Tuners a spare PCM, it will be returned to you with the same programming as it was received and may not operate in your Ford vehicle without additional programming by a Ford dealer.
  • Your MG1 core must be fully functional with no physical or internal damage.

Step 2: After placing your order, you will receive an email with a shipping form and shipping information. You can also find this form and address here. Fill out this form with the necessary information.
Step 3: Carefully remove the PCM from your vehicle and securely package it to ship to HP Tuners. Place your completed shipping form in the box. Feel free to use any shipping carrier you prefer.
Step 4: Write your order number on the outside of the shipping box.
Step 5: Ship your PCM to HP Tuners. The shipping address can be found on this page and in the email discussed in Step 2. Shipping costs to and from HP Tuners are the responsibility of the customer. The shipping charge at checkout only covers return shipping.

How does it work?

During the process of venting crankcase pressure back through your intake track, large amounts of oil, in the form of vapors can gather/accumulate in your intake tube, intake manifold runners and even dilute your gas, lowering its octane level. This happens on all engines and is even worse with forced inducted vehicles (supercharged and turbocharged) as crankcase pressures are increased. To combat this, we have developed an oil separator of our own design. Milled from solid billet aluminum this is a rock-solid piece. It has a knurled tank base for easy removal to drain the spent oil and an O-ring seal to prevent any leaks.

Filtering consists of a fine mesh stainless steel filter that traps fine oil vapors and releases them once heavy enough to fall.  By the time the oil gets through the filter, it’s too heavy to be passed on into the intake. The tank holds 3 oz of fluid, while that may not sound like a lot, you shouldn’t see that much oil in your PCV system. Check the oil separator after 1000 miles of driving. Most applications can make it 2500-3500 before filling the unit but every vehicle is different!

WHY J&L? Our Oil Separators are easy install, service and flat out work! Many use OEM hoses or come complete with all hoses, custom brackets and hardware for an OEM look. Retain stock hose if you ever return to stock.
